A Noachite, someone who lives by the Seven Noachite Commandments (often seen as universal moral guidelines within the Jewish tradition for the nations) can pray in different ways depending on his or her personal background. Since there are no set rituals or prayers mandatory for Noahites as there are in Judaism or Islam, there is room for personal interpretation.
The simplest and most authentic way to pray is to talk to G-d in your own language, with your own words. This can be about gratitude, asking for help, praying for another, insight, forgiveness or just a moment of connection.
Many Noahites use Psalms from the Tenach (the Old Testament), mainly because they are universal and spiritually rich. For example, Psalm 23 or Psalm 121 are often used for comfort and confidence.
Although it is not obligatory, some Noahites choose to pray facing Jerusalem, as a tribute to the place where the Temple stood. Praying silently, kneeling or standing or enjoying nature over a cup of tea - Everyone has their own preference for connecting with G-d.
Er zijn geen verplichte gebedstijden voor Noachieten. Sommigen kiezen ervoor om ’s ochtends en ’s avonds een moment te nemen, anderen bidden alleen als ze de behoefte voelen.
For support or inspiration, Noahite prayer books can be found.
For instance, AskNoah has a small handy prayer book which also fits in a backpack or handbag making it easy to carry around. For people who want more in-depth prayers, the Brit Olam or the Order prayer books are good options. All 3 books are translated into Dutch and available via Amazon.
